My DIY Breastfeeding Poncho

I'm a big fan of do-it-yourself stuff. Not only does it save money, it also paves the way for creativity to make unique pieces.

Since it's breastfeeding month, let me share how i made my own nursing cover. I decided to make a poncho type because it requires less sewing.

Materials needed

  • 1 yard cotton fabric (I bought from Fabric Warehouse at Php 140.00 per yard)

  • thread that complements the color of cloth

  • measuring tape

  • scissor

  • needle or sewing machine

Procedure

Cut a 36 X 36 inch square from the fabric.

  • You can make it larger if you want more coverage.

Fold the fabric diagonally.

  • Using the tape measure, cut a 12-inch slit at the middle.  You can make the slit longer if you want to peek inside for eye contact with your child as you nurse.

Sew the edges.

  • I initially hand sew the edges. Later i asked a modiste to machine-sew the poncho.

Forgive my very very rough sketch.

In hindsight, i should have cut a bigger square. I think it's better to cut a bigger square for maximum coverage, especially if you intend to breastfeed a toddler under the cover. If you use a bigger piece of cloth, your back will also be covered.
